Walk 2: Broadway to Stanway (6 miles)

Today we tackled the second stretch of the Cotswold Way, which we are walking in support of Maggie's (www.justgiving.com/fundraising/deborah-kahn).  Joining us on this walk were Helen, Margaret and Bryan, who over this year is walking the length of Land's End to John O'Groats virtually, also in support of Maggie's (www.justgiving.com/fundraising/bryan-vickery).

We parked on the outskirts of Broadway and retraced our steps into the town.

Picking up the well-marked Cotswold Way path, we stopped for the obligatory start photo.

We then crossed beautiful meadows and started to climb up onto the escarpment.

We eventually reached a small wood, full of wild garlic and bluebells. The views back to Broadway were outstanding.

It was a steady climb up broad tracks to the Iron Age hill fort of Shenberrow Camp where we stopped for a restorative snack.

The views from the top of Shenberrow Camp were beautiful - we could see in all directions across Gloucestershire and Worcestershire. The Trail then descends quite steeply into the quintessential Cotswold village of Stanton.

From Stanton it was an easy walk across parkland to the village of Stanway, with its Jacobean manor where we finished the walk.

This was a dog friendly walk, with easy stiles, where she was off the lead most of the time. The weather was glorious, and we walked for most of the time in bright warm sunshine. Luckily there was a cooling breeze on top of the escarpment.
