Walk 1: Chipping Camden to Broadway (6 miles)

A chilly April day.

Six of us set out from Chipping Camden for the first leg of our Walking the Cotswold Way adventure. We had planned to do this in 2020, but circumstances prevented that. We are walking in support of Maggie's Centres, and our fundraising page is here.

After obligatory photos at the signpost pointing to Bath 100 miles away we set off  towards Dover's Hill, a slow but steady climb out of Chipping Camden of about a mile. There were lovely views from the hill, over rolling countryside. Here, the Cotswold Olimpick Games are held annually including events such as shin kicking, Morris dancing and tug of war.

From here the walk is mainly flat. We picnicked at  Fish Hill picnic place, the halfway point on the way to Broadway. Lots of picnic tables, convenient toilets, but a bit close to the A44. We had a delicious picnic in the hail and cold.

Crossing the A44, we then walked through the lovely Ash Woods, and onto Broadway Hill past some gambolling lambs, and on up to the Broadway Tower. We were pleased to find that this not a steep climb as we had expected, and the views from Broadway Tower were stunning.

The hill down into Broadway from the Tower is very steep, not kind to the knees. The sun came out.

Arriving in Broadway we made our way back down the pretty high street and to the waiting cars.

This was a lovely walk, and was a dog friendly route, with lots of places where she could go off lead, though there were places where she had to be on the lead around livestock, and a little road walking.
